DIY?

Sometimes the building societies ask for remedial work to be carried out which is not necessarily the preserve of a specialist company and can be done by any competent tradesman or DIY enthusiast  -  for instance if floorboards need to be replaced or rendering has cracked and needs repair.  I often meet people who are quite capable of doing this sort of work themselves but the building society needs proof that any works which have been specified have been done correctly.  This usually means they require an invoice from a reputable company and thus the work is taken out of your hands.  Consequently you may incur unnecessary frustration and costs.

If you feel that you could attempt repairs yourself, I can inspect your work after it's finished and, provided it's safe, satisfactory and resolves the problems which initiated it, I can then provide you with documentation which states that the work has been carried out to my specification and the problem has been cured.

Naturally, if long term guarantees are required then you will have to approch a company who can provide these things but in a lot of cases this is not necessary.

In light of the difficulties often experienced when trying to employ tradesmen, especially for the smaller jobs, this service can be extremely useful and has saved some of my clients a considerable amount. of money
